A Sacred Pact

How're you gonna push that rock up the hill without making any progress? What're you gonna do when your best efforts fail? When the world crumbles down, and you're left all alone, what sense is there to make of it? Horrible things happen every day for no rhyme or reason. Dreams fail. People die. Countless beings suffer fates far worse than death. What is there to feel thankful about in those deep, dark, and murky moments? Those ugly moments covered in mud that reek of something rotten. How does it feel when you spend your entire life struggling against the void, only to watch yourself waste away? What's there to be said about any of it? What's there to be deciphered or understood?  Write and make sense of everything as much as you'd like. Laugh loudly and indulge in the greatest of comforts. Create new art, express yourself, and spread the love. Or dread the inevitable and drag down a dozen or two with you on your way to hell. No matter what you do, all of us wi...

The Notorious Cult

There once was a species of no significance. Its members moved about in search of sustenance, to fulfill their needs, of which there were few. All they needed was some food, water, shelter, and a warm bed to proliferate. Yet all of them were weak and could barely manage to scrape anything together. It became clear then, that they belonged in groups. No matter how incompetent they were by themselves, they possessed an uncanny ability to band together in pursuit of some common goal. Life was hard but simple. Stick together to protect the group, collect resources, and eliminate threats. At first, this was rather straightforward. They knew of the nearest water body and the trees with edible fruits. Predators would attack and they would defend. But as time went on, their luck started to run out. The rivers dried up, disease became rampant, and things changed too fast for them to make sense of them. The group suffered endlessly. In a moment of desperation, something started to change. Some o...

Judgmental Repercussions

This one's courtesy of a discussion by Ted which sparked an internal dialogue in the old noodle. The question is simple: Why would anyone want to constantly renew themselves? I thought that the best way to live was to make the most appropriate decisions. For that, it's crucial to learn, manage, and assimilate vast amounts of information. That's why I thought it's best to emphasize the importance of estimating probabilities at the beginning of my book. The idea is that a person can never really know anything for sure. So many things about reality are inherently unknowable. Isn't that why fringe theorists and physicists are always arguing about us living in a computer simulation, or why conventional rules of logic and matter melt away at the quantum level? But the purpose of the brain is to make decisions. The right decisions can guide one's action and increase the chances of favorable results. Problems start to arise when we come into the very real world of actio...
